Tenders Are Invited For full Rebuild of the Mobile and Web Application
GAIN's proprietary data collection platform monitors the availability and quality of fortified food products in markets across developing countries. Field enumerators use it to survey food markets : recording product availability, packaging, nutrient declarations, and price : for staple fortified foods including oil, salt, sugar, wheat flour, maize flour, rice, milk, and beans. The data collected underpins GAIN's analysis of whether fortification programmes are reaching consumers effectively. The platform was first built in 2019 and has been in active field use since. It comprises two components: i. Web Application: Used by GAIN administrators and analysts to manage configuration, user accounts, reference data, and review of submitted field data. Also exports data for further analysis. ii. Mobile Application: Used by field enumerators to conduct surveys and capture data : including product photographs : in low-connectivity or offline environments.
An infrastructure and code assessment conducted in May 2026 identified the following critical risks in the existing web application. The mobile application, built as a modified fork of an open-source data collection tool (ODK Collect), has also reached the limit of what can reasonably be extended.
